Through financially supporting arts departments in public schools to developing community-oriented programming to support the artists of tomorrow, Hickory Playground strives to be a blueprint for individuals around the country to create the change they seek in their communities. As of 2023, Hickory Playground has donated over $70,000 to 15+ arts departments in public schools in Catawba County, North Carolina. Our signature event is a 48-Hour Theater Festival which takes place in July. The festival produces new work from eight playwrights and 24+ actors. Hickory Playground has produced 40 original works through their festival.
The company received the Friends of the Arts Award from the North Carolina Arts Education Association (NCAEA) in 2019, which celebrates organizations with an exceptional record for supporting the arts in North Carolina. All donations of any amount are appreciated, and the vast majority of all donations go back to current and future artists, activists, and leaders.
HPG donated another $15,000 to 8 different arts departments in 2022 and hopes to continue to sustain arts departments in public schools for years to come.
